Four tournaments a year matter more than any others in men's golf: the Masters, the PGA Championship, the US Open and The Open. Players' careers are judged by how many they win.

The Masters

The only major played at the same course every year, Augusta National. The winner gets the green jacket. Famous for its azaleas, Amen Corner and a small, invitation-only field.

The PGA Championship

Run by the PGA of America, and unusual in giving places in the field to club professionals. In 2027 it goes to PGA Frisco in Texas.

The US Open

Known for the toughest set-ups in golf: narrow fairways, thick rough and fast greens, where level par is often a good score. In 2027 it is at Pebble Beach in California.

The Open

The oldest major, first played in 1860, and the only one outside the US. It is always on a links course by the sea in the UK, where wind and weather are part of the test. The winner gets the Claret Jug. In 2027 it returns to St Andrews.
